We first learned of the Moscow Mule while on vacation in Charleston last August. Shortly after being seated at a restaurant for dinner, a waiter walked by with two copper mugs tantalizingly dewing from the ice cold beverages they contained. We had just spent the last couple of hours meandering around the city in 90°F weather and humidity so great that the air felt thick enough to grab, so needless to say, whatever was in those mugs looked quite enticing. When we asked our waitress what drink was in the copper mugs, she responded “Moscow Mule. It’s vodka, ginger beer, and lime.” We each ordered one and soon realized that although it’s light in ingredients, a Moscow Mule is mighty in flavor.
Our Cider Mule is a twist on the traditional Moscow Mule. We’ve swapped in cider for vodka to create a lower ABV drink that is just as refreshing. All you need to create this cocktail is a dry cider, lime, ginger beer, and ice. We used Stormalong’s Legendary Dry cider in ours, but you can sub in whatever dry cider you have readily available.
Makes 1 drink
½ of 1 lime
5 oz. dry cider
4-5 ice cubes
Add cider and lime juice to glass. Stir to combine.
Add 4-5 ice cubes to glass. Pour in ginger beer, adding just enough to fill the glass.
Give one more quick stir to the drink.
Garnish with lime wedge, drink, and enjoy!
